Common Name: Thorny Yellowwood.
Distribution: Clarence River, NSW to Eungella, Nth QLD.
Habitat: Subtropical, dry and riverine rainforest
Form: Small-medium tree to 15m tall.
Leaves:
Flower: Flowers are pink/cream to red/yellow in short bunches at branchlet ends from October-December.
Fruit: Fruit is a dark red wrinkled capsule which splits into two with a single black seed inside. Ripe February-May.
Garden Use: It has possibilities as long as you don't mind the prickles. The glossy, dark green foliage is ornamental.
Edible?: No.
Propagation: Propagate from fresh seed (germination erratic.
Comments: Small plants have slender rigid prickles which become conical, woody thorns on older trees.
