Common Name: Zig zag vine.
Distribution: From northeast NSW to northeast Qld, NT and PNG.
Habitat: Complex microphyll closed forest.
Form: Vine - a bushy scrambler, turning into a large liane.
Leaves:
Flower: Orange/brown.
Fruit: Orange, fleshy, containing one to four seed(s) which form bulges in the surface of the fruit. Ripe Jan to Mar.
Garden Use: A bushy easily grown species which can be pruned as a shrub or allowed to climb. Flowers are fragrant.
Edible?: Yes.
Propagation: From fresh seed, removed from the pulp. Germinates easily and reliably in 2 months.
Comments: Aborigines ate the ripe fruit straight off the forest floor. Fruit has a pleasant acidic taste. A foodplant for a number of butterflies.
