Common Name: round-leaf vine.
Distribution: Cape York, Qld to Illawarra, NSW.
Habitat: most types of rainforest.
Form: a vigorous, woody twining vine which can grow into the rainforest canopy.
Leaves: simple, alternate, ovate/rounded up to 20cm long and 16cm wide, glaucous/white underside and dark green upper surface with a stiff texture.
Flower: green, unisexual flowers are borne in axillary cymes which form up to 10cm long from September-November.
Fruit: a globular, flattened blue-black berry. Ripe December-March.
Garden Use: suitable for small/large gardens depending on how much pruning you want to do to keep it under control. Not a particularly ornamental species, though interesting. Prefers a moist site.
Edible?: No.
Propagation: from fresh seed with the aril removed.
Comments: This plant can be trained to climb over a trellis, etc.
