Common Name: Hard quandong.
Distribution: Wyong, NSW to Proserpine, Qld (locally grows along Bulimba Ck, Cabbage Tree Ck, Enoggera Ck, Kholo Ck, Moggill Ck and Pullen Pullen Ck).
Habitat: Subtropical and dry rainforest and along scrubby watercourses.
Form: Tree to 30m
Leaves:
Flower: White, bell shaped Sept - Nov.
Fruit: Blue drupe. Ripe Jan to April.
Garden Use: A fast growing tree suitable for larger gardens and windbreaks. Attractive in both flower and fruit.
Edible?: Yes (flesh surrounding the seed).
Propagation: Germination is both difficult and erratic but strikes readily from cuttings.
Comments: Aborigines made necklaces out of the seed after eating the flesh. The fruit is attractive to birds, especially silvereyes.
