Fungi

To browse the groups by thumbnails, use the navigation at left or the links below. To search the fungi, use a keyword plus "plant type". We have used the search filters to group fungi by traditional morphological features, while the navigation drills down through the fungi orders and families.

Basidiomycota - Basidiomycota is large phylum including mushrooms, puffballs, stinkhorns, bracket fungi, polypores, jelly fungi, boletes, chanterelles and earth stars (among others). They are so called because they mostly reproduce sexually via club-shaped cells called basidia.
Ascomycota - Ascomycota is a phylum whose members are commonly known as Sac Fung because their spores are usually in a sac (ascus). Of the Ascomycota normally in field guides, the largest group is usually the cup fungi.
